Look closely, and you’ll notice that these tests were for free chlorine, which means that KDF filters don’t really help to deal with total chlorine (combined chlorine). It’s also possible that chlorine is supplied to the water plant in the form of a compound with ammonia called “chloramine.” Chloramine and mixed chlorine are resistant to KDF.

I was just wondering about the effectiveness of using both amazing filters that you’ve mentioned in the article plus a Reverse Osmosis? Reverse osmosis is supposed to add beneficial minerals and further reduce the harmful ones. What do you think about this?

Are there any good shower filters known for filtering arsenic and that white stuff that clogs the shower holes and produces rust around taps and pipes?

How did you install the two shower filters in tandem on one shower head? How did you prevent a significant decrease in water pressure?

A second filter with carbon is an inspired idea with the vitamin C filter because chloramine causes lead solder in indoor plumbing to leach into the shower and drinking water. Chloramine is a very bad, short-sighted idea IMO. Bladder cancer rates are higher in regions back east where chloramine has been used as a water disinfectant for several years.

In reply to william c pool. I've stopped updating this post because I realized that I cannot find any definitive answers about shower filters. The next step would be to arrange my own shower filter tests by an independent laboratory, but I have not gone forward with that.

In reply to Andrew. Tappwater.com claims that Vit C is only good in theory, won't work as a shower filter , water moves too fast through the filter. I really don't know who to believe about what. Water goes through my carbon one fast that has KDF also in it. That company says the fancy ones with many stages are smoke and mirrors and too small. I see a lack of certification positing on most filter advertising. Like do they even meet the 177 standard?

Hi Thai,

If I am not mistaken, the Osmio device you are referring to does not use ceramic filters, it uses reverse osmosis technology. If you are looking for something that adds minerals, there is is this UK company my friend showed me the other day called Skuma. I am not really sure about their claims but who knows.
