Ecosystem in a company in New York that makes notebooks out of 100% post-consumer recycled paper. This means the paper used to make the notebooks was collected from U.S. household recycling bins. The notebooks include features like a back pocket, perforated pages, an organic cotton bookmark, and an elastic closure.

The notebooks also include codes that allow you find the origins the paper used to construct them.

The notebooks are available with blank, ruled, lined and squared paper.

Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Steelcase has been making office furniture since 1912. Their Think Chair is designed to maximize comfort and ergonomics, and it has received several prestigous design awards since its introduction in 2006.

The Think Chair was also the first product to receive a Cradle to Cradle Product Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC). The certification evaluates a product for human and environmental health impacts throughout its lifecycle and its potential for being truly recycled or safely composted. The chair is 98% recyclable (it takes about five minutes to dissemble for recycling using common hand tools), and it’s also made with recycled materials — Steelcase says the amount is “up to 37%”.

In terms of warranty, Steelcase offers a lifetime warranty on most of the chair’s parts, ten years for the seating mechanisms, and three years for fabric.

Vers iPod Dock: Handcrafted In The U.S.

Vers is a company in Maine that makes handcrafted iPod docks from Walnut and Bamboo. Their latest dock for iPods and iPhones incorporates an AM/FM radio and an alarm clock.

I’ve owned a Vers dock for about three years, I’m pleased with the sound of the speakers. The reproduction is clear, and the sound certainly fills a room. Vers says the thick wooden enclosure allows to the dock produce a richer sound than a dock constructed with plastic.

Vers also aims to be an environmentally responsible manufacturer — they are a Carbon Free partner, Energy Star partner, and participate in the e-Stewart recycling program. You can read about the company’s mission here.

All Vers sound systems carry a one year warranty against defects relating to materials and workmanship.
