The Brightest LED Flashlight That Uses AA Batteries: Nitecore EA81

The brightest flashlight with AA batteries is the Nitecore EA81, which shines at 2000 lumens. It takes eight AA batteries and costs about $200.

It’s waterproof to IPX-8 Standard (1.5 meters) and impact resistant to 1.5 meters.

The Brightest Keychain Flashlight: Titan Plus

Surefire has released the Titan Plus, a keychain flashlight that produces 300 lumens in its highest light mode. Before this release, the brightest keychain light produced about 80-120 lumens, so this threefold increase is significant.

I’ve purchased this light and will be testing it soon. The 300-lumen mode lasts about 1 hour using a AAA Ni-MH battery.

All Surefire flashlights are designed and built in the USA, although some components are still sourced outside the US. Surefire says:

The FireHotTub is just 16 inches deep — so it’s really best for solo soaks. However, this tub is quite portable — it has built-in handles so that two people can carry it and put it in a trailer.

The water in the tub circulates naturally through the coil around the basket where the firewood is held. You can raise or lower the basket to adjust the temperature. There’s a built-in screen to protect bathers from ash. You can still toast marshmallows with ambient heat.

Titanium is also highly corrosion-resistant, even when exposed to sea water and chlorine. Oceanographers report that titanium immersed for 30 years in saltwater produces no measurable corrosion. That’s because titanium instantly forms a protective oxide film when it’s exposed to a trace of air or water.

However, note that many products labeled “titanium” are just titanium colored, or they only contain a thin coating of titanium. The gear listed here are made with solid titanium or an alloy containing more than 90% titanium.

In my opinion, Snow Peak (Japan) has the most elegantly designed titanium gear, and Toaks (USA) seems to have the lowest prices.
